Mystery Solved!
It’s not a conspiracy! I promise you! But placement is designed to not be unsightly on your fancy new wheels – AND – to protect the information.
But WHY do I need this??? – The serial number is one of a kind and is unique to only that vehicle. That series of letters and numbers tells a specialist A LOT about your vehicle. – and quickly! With this they can order parts, advise about repairs or operation, and help you troubleshoot or insure it.
Serial Numbers are usually a combination of Letters and numbers – typically starting with letters. They are usually on a white or silver metallic label with a barcode on them.
Even though there are SO MANY different manufacturers and designs of scooters and wheelchairs, there are some industry standards with regards to placement. Often, it can be found in a few places on one vehicle. The idea is that you will NOT have to take anything apart to find it!
For Scooters:
- Look in the User’s Manual – Front Page, Backpage, or inside on the first page or two. (Hope you saved it!)
- On the SEAT – look ALL OVER the seat! – Under, Sides, and Back.
- On the post that supports the seat
- On the tiller just below the “dash” area
- On the Frame – low, at the rear, visible tucked under the body/shroud.
- On the motor
- On the battery – you may have to pull it out a bit to see it.
For Wheelchairs:
- Look in the User’s Manual – Front Page, Backpage, or inside on the first page or two.
- Stand behind the chair and look down – it should be on the framework under the seat – probably on a crossbar – but VISIBLE
- Joystick - Under the front of it. You will have to bend down to see it.
- On the post that supports the seat
- On the motor
- On the Battery
Do not despair! You will find it! I’ve attached some images that may help.
